Although I believed about how honest jws were, I never got caught out cuz I neverhad any money to lend. And if I did, no one asked me and i wouldn't have lent it anyway, because of my own cynical nature. Lol, to think I was the person who piped up at the cash register if they'd under charged me or given me too much change back. Or if I'd forgotten to pay for some small item I forgot to pull out of my trolley. Gosh I'm so honest, because as a Christian, that's what I was supposed to be. The ones who weren't, and we know they are because of all these experiences, what did they think god thought of them? How could they think they could get away with breaking their god's rules? Or did they think their god wouldn't know, or make an exception for them?

I was healthy as a horse before I joined jws. After 14 years as one I was a physical and mental wreck. Mind you, not all these things came from being a jw but they sure as eggs were exacerbated by it.
The lifestyle doesn't allow for any emotional release, even the sort you get from cheering your football team. It's such a bare existence which strips away the development of self through arts, literature, philosophy, education and for some people, the competition found in team sports. Imo these things coupled with the constant negativity as pointed out in my thread, you are going to get sick. You are on a treadmill of meetings and witnessing, constantly told how imperfect and inadequate you are, pushed from pillar to post with no rest. No emotional or physical outlets. your true self is constantly at battle with the cult id.
All these things leave you as a shell of a human being after years of it. And that's if you went in with your health. I know many in poor health who've gone in, maybe attracted by paradise. And healthy but social misfits who become unhealthy social misfits. I know many raised and been in their whole lives who are damaged by hard physical labour, and their wives who have fibromyalgia or something and the toll the jw life has taken on them has aged them terribly.

New Kingdom Hall contribution boxes announced

the society has received a lot of letters complaining about c t russell having been demoted from being a member of the faithful and discreet slave.
in response to that, the society will be announcing at the forthcoming agm that the new modern style contribution boxes will be installed worldwide from 1 january 2014 especially to mark the 100th anniversary of jesus' invisible kingdom rule from 1914 and to give due recognition and honour to brother russell for his invaluable contribution in revealing this identifying feature of the true religion, which all truth-loving jw's continue to cherish and boldly preach.

Do Witnesses Have Any Aspirations Anymore?
by minimus inwhen i was a kid, my family wanted me to reach out for any type of "privilege", whether it be cleaning the rest room or being an attendant.
obviously, reaching out to be a ministerial servant and elder were high on the list.. since college was a no no, we were to aspire to be something within the congregation.. i wonder if anyone aspires to be anything in the organization, at this point in time..

by 3rdgen inok, this is our situation as of late: jw elderly mil needs to move in with us or go to an expensive assisted living arrangement.
although i would rather stick a fork in my eye than live with her, assisted living would bankrupt us.
i know because we've already been through it with my mom.

Not me personally, but I have/had JW friends who had been.
One's husband was in business with an elder in the late 90's. Elder ripped AUD $10 000 off him in about 1997-8, and got stepped down and left and moved to another congo. I asked friend who got ripped off why her husband didn't prosecute. She said she would have liked to, but her husband just took it on the chin and figured it'd be best to let it go. Then in about 2008, this bro in his new cong was an elder again and got stepped down and moved away. Apparently he'd been up to his old tricks again. I always wondered how he and his wife could pioneer with a family of 4 kids and have their own house and good car. He was a rip-off merchant.
Another was my best friend who lent her flatmate $500 and never got it back.
I also met a householder out in field service once who'd been in business with a JW couple who'd taken them to the cleaners. I didn't believe him at the time and thought he was either mistaken, or if he was right, the couple would be dfd.
Another time, a friend of mine rented her factory premises out to a bro who made kitchens or something. He never paid rent and owed them over $10k and wouldn't pay. Being gentle kind sheeple, they tolerated it for ages but eventually had him leave. He snubbed them something fierce afterwards. It also turned out he was embezzling them somehow and using the money to wine and dine this sister in their 3 month courtship before marriage, giving her the impression he was well off. When they got married they moved in with his mother!!
Another friend of mine, a guy in his 20's, a convert like me, was working for a pioneer last I heard. This guy was always late in paying him, and the only leave he ever gets is for the convention. He hasn't had a break in years, except for a week off when his father died. Great boss, huh? And like so many JWs, he's a meek guy who won't stand up for himself.
An elder in my last cong who left and is now dfd, took money from the contribution box. A sister who had contributed $800 one month caught him because when the accounts were read they were less than $800 for the month. She made the accusation and got dfd for it. Later that same elder lost his job in management because he was embezzling. This was long before he ran off with the woman he'd been having an affair with for the last 5 years as an elder and got dfd.
A brother I'd known for years was selling dodgy products over the internet, making false claims about these cheap knockoff mobile phones or something, and selling stuff on ebay he didn't actuall have. Of course it all blew up in his face and he ended up losing his house over it.
I'm sure if I had asked around, I would have been able to come up with a lot more stories.
